Many football fans would love to become a director
of their favourite football club. Stephen is
one of the very few who has managed to do so.
He was invited to become a Director of Hibernian as
a result of his highly successful career in the
world of business. Stephen has played a
leading role in a number of multi-million pound
deals often involving international companies.
He has also succeeded in the difficult task of
leading very large teams of workers.
Outside of work, Stephen is heavily involved in
supporting Edinburgh's Sick Kids Hospital and is
a former Trustee of the National Library of Scotland. He
also finds time
to be a keen and extremely talented amateur
photographer. |
Castlebrae has produced many talented sports stars.
As one of Scotland's top young footballers, Kerry is
a good example. She played for Hibernian Ladies and
has also represented Scotland under 19s. |
As a youngster Alan saw a business opportunity when
he sold something he bought at a jumble sale for a
huge profit. This early success was very
exciting and he went on to repeat the feat with a
number of other items. In this way, Alan
developed a deep knowledge of, and great love for
antiques, even although there were no antiques in
his own house as a child. He went on to use
this know-how to build a highly profitable business
buying and selling antiques before moving into other
areas of the business world. |
Sheila always wanted to run her own business and has
now achieved her aim. As the owner of a local
hairdressing firm she is very busy running her three
salons as well as being the mother of two small
children. Sheila's success is built on the
fact that a lot of people know and trust both her
and her stylists. Of course, she knows she
must do a good job or the firm's reputation will
quickly begin to suffer and her clients will go
elsewhere. Sheila is very proud of the fact
that her company now creates jobs in the city where
she grew up.

Ricky had a background in engineering and sales,
before he decided to set up the IT company
Commsworld, a successful Voice and Data
Communications company. With an £8m turnover,
it has become a major player in the Scotland's IT
sector supporting thousands of the countries leading
businesses and creating many high quality jobs for
talented people. Ricky is grateful to the
people who have helped him build his company but he
is also deeply grateful to the staff of Western
General Hospital in Edinburgh who successfully
nursed him back to full health when he was diagnosed
with cancer a few years ago. |
Louise
realised a childhood dream when she qualified as a
nurse. Now as a ward sister in a busy A&E department
of a major hospital, she works very hard and has a
great deal of responsibility. After all, she makes
life or death decisions every day. However, Louise
loves her work. She is not rich or famous but she
gains great satisfaction from helping people when
they are in real need.

Angela Watson
(Hospitality)
Angela liked the idea of travelling to other parts
of the world. She also found she like working
in the hospitality industry. Now she has put
both of these things together and is enjoying life
in Mexico where the climate is little different to
that in Edinburgh. Angela works at the
luxurious health club and spa at one of the
exclusive resorts in Mexico. |

Andrew King
(Construction)
Andrew enjoyed Design and Technology at school and
went on to study at Napier University afterwards.
He then followed a career in project management
where he found hard work coupled with
self-confidence enabled him to rapidly gain
promotion. He took on increasingly senior
roles and is now Senior Project Manager working on a
major construction project in the Gulf state of
Bahrain. |
Castlebrae High has produced many sports stars over
the years. James was talented enough to win a
place to study Physical Education at Edinburgh
University (alongside fellow FP Michael Scott).
As if this was not enough to keep him busy, James
put in the extra time and effort required to become
one of Scotland's youngest Grade 3 football
referees! He caught the refereeing bug
when the school allowed him to handle some pupil
games and then encouraged him to register with the
Scottish Football Association. The SFA was
highly impressed and decided to fast track James
with the result that he could soon become one of the
country's youngest ever Grade 1 referees! |
John
was one of many whose great achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win the First World War.
Sadly, he paid the ultimate price as a report in a
local newspaper in 1916 tells: "Corporal J.
Watson has been
killed in action near Somme in France. He was
educated in the local school and before being called up
worked in a local building company. He was
19 years of age."

Many pupils choose to help people less well off than
themselves. For example, Emma spends a lot of time
working with a volunteer group which helps the
families of local children with special needs. Emma
is happy to give up her spare time in this way
because she finds it very satisfying and has also
made many good friends. Now she is considering a
career in education.

Find the name ... (Radio)
Many pupils would like to follow a career in the
media when they leave school. To do so often
requires talent, a great deal of hard work and a
little luck along the way. One former
pupil is now working as a radio presenter with Wave
102 FM. Can you find out who it is? |
