Gary Lewis (Acting)

Gary is one of Scotland's top actors.  He was well known in Scotland for a number of years but shot to international fame with his wonderful and moving performance as Billy Elliot's father in the film of that title.  Following this success, he has worked with some of the world's top actors and directors. At school Gary's surname was Stevenson.

Doreen Wilson (Health)

Doreen trained as a nurse in Airdrie and went on become Director of Nursing in a large nursing home in England. This was followed by a move to North America where she nursed in both Canada and the USA. Doreen even wrote the state nursing exam for Florida!

Jackie McNamara (Sport)

Jackie's footballing talent was clear when he was a pupil at Lochend. He went on to make his name with Celtic before moving to Hibs where he played over 200 games over many years.  He had a long spell as club captain and was very popular with the Hibs fans.

Duncan Wilson  (Engineering)

Duncan studied at Strathclyde University and went on to become a successful civil engineer working in many parts of the world. He was based in San Diego and Palm Springs in the USA before moving to Canada where he now lives in Ontario and is currently working in Edmonton.

Angela Anderson  (Finance)

Angela became famous throughout the United Kingdom when she starred in a series of commercials for one of the country's largest banks. She had worked for the bank for many years before she was chosen because of her good singing voice and friendly personality.

Shelly Heggie  (Education)

Shelley hit the headlines when she won the Scottish Young Adult Learners' Award for 2004. She did so after starting a construction course at John Wheatley College where her good work helped her secure an apprenticeship with Glasgow City Council as a trainee joiner. Shelley's early success in construction proved that talented females can do well in an industry which has for many years been dominated by males.

Tiger Time Stevens (Music)

Tiger Tim is a well-known DJ whose enthusiasm has helped him keep up the pace for many years. Never one to avoid the spotlight or ignore a challenge, his career has been both exciting and varied. Tim has been a pop singer, presented a large number of music shows on television and radio, and has even found time to write his autobiography.

Robert Bell  (Engineering)

Robert became Construction Director for Edinburgh Trams, Scotland's largest construction project at the time. Having left Lochend to undergo an apprenticeship, Robert discovered a host of opportunities to develop his career and returned to higher education to help realise his ambitions. Other achievements include starting and managing one of the country's top Electrical Engineering and Contracting businesses!

Bobby Williamson  (Sport)

Bobby became a high achiever in the tough and highly competitive world of professional football. He was a top player at Rangers and Kilmarnock before he became a manager with Kilmarnock, Hibs, Plymouth Argyle and eventually the national team of Uganda!  In 1997 Bobby managed Kilmarnock to a historic Scottish Cup success.

John Smith  (Army)

John was one of many whose great achievement was to help Britain and its allies win the First World War. Sadly, he paid the ultimate price as a report in a local newspaper in 1916 tells: "Corporal J. Smith has been killed in action near Somme in France. He was educated in the local school and before being called up was a farm labourer. He was 19 years of age."

Graham Dott  (Sport)

Graeme became the world's top snooker player in 2004. He had won many tournaments before that year's World Championship but was not regarded as one of the tournament favourites. Nevertheless he overcame the odds to bravely claim the title. Like most top sports stars, Graeme's success was built on a great deal of hard work as well as talent.

Emma Hughes  (Community)

Many pupils choose to help people less well off than themselves. For example, Emma spends a lot of time working with a volunteer group which helps the families of local children with special needs. Emma is happy to give up her spare time in this way because she finds it very satisfying and has also made many good friends. Now she is considering a career in education.
