Elish Angiolini (Law)

Elish made legal history in 2001 when she became the first woman to serve as Solicitor General for Scotland. She then went on to become the first woman to hold the office of Lord Advocate, Scotland's senior Law Officer.  Elish grew up in Govan in Glasgow and after graduating from the School of Law at Strathclyde University, began her training with the Procurator Fiscal Service. She has worked in courts around Scotland as well as advising the government on important matters of law.

Maureen Beattie (Actor)

Maureen is a successful actress.  After Notre Dame she trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. She has played many roles both in theatre and on television and became well known throughout the UK when she played a nurse in the TV series Casualty. Maureen's interest in drama was obvious at school where her favourite subject was English. Acting is also in Maureen's blood - her father is the popular entertainer, Johnny Beattie.

Debi Gliori (Author)

Debi is the author and illustrator of many books for children including Mr Bear, the winner of the Children's Book Award. She has also written books for older readers including Pure Dead Magic and Pure Dead Wicked. Debi started producing children's books in 1976, then went to study at Edinburgh Art College. She still lives and works in Scotland.

Jacqueline McAllum (Science)

Jacqueline showed a real talent for science at school and went on to study Medical Biochemistry at Glasgow University. Her scientific knowledge, attention to detail and ability to manage a team all help to explain the great success she has gone on to enjoy in her career.  After working in a variety of organisations, in 2011 Jaqueline was appointed to the key post of Medical Information and Patient Safety Manager at AstraZeneca, one of the world's larges pharmaceutical and biologics companies.

Clare Grogan (Actor & Singer)

Clare was discovered by film director Bill Forsyth when she was waitressing in a Glasgow restaurant. She subsequently shot to fame at the age of 19 in Forsyth's film Gregory's Girl.  She has also had roles in a number of top TV shows including Eastenders, Father Ted and Red Dwarf.
Clare also developed her singing career as the lead singer of Altered Images and the band had a string of hits in the early 1980s, including Happy Birthday.  For most of us, this would be enough but Clare clearly likes a challenge.  She has also been a chat show host on US television and in 2008 published a children's book called Tallulah and the Teenstars about a girl who forms a rock band.

Helena Carroll (Actor)

Helana enjoyed great success as a film, television and stage actress. She began her career in the early 1950s and went on to roles on stage and musical theatre, most notably Oliver! on Broadway.  She also featured in many films and television programs, including a version of James Joyce 's The Dead.

Louise Black (Health)

Louise realised a childhood dream when she qualified as a nurse. Now as a ward sister in a busy A&E department of a major hospital, she works very hard and has a great deal of responsibility. After all, she makes life or death decisions every day. However, Louise loves her work. She is not rich or famous but she gains great satisfaction from helping people when they are in real need.

Allana Capiella (Science)

Allana was one of only 25 students across Scotland selected for the Scottish Space School 2004 visit to NASA headquarters in the USA. During the trip she worked with NASA astronauts and scientists and visited laboratories and the space shuttle. The Space School aims to excite young Scots about the career options in science, engineering and technology.

Emma Hughes  (Community)

Many pupils choose to help people less well off than themselves. For example, Emma spends a lot of time working with a volunteer group which helps the families of local children with special needs. Emma is happy to give up her spare time in this way because she finds it very satisfying and has also made many good friends. Now she is considering a career in education.
