Andrew
Crumey
Writer |
|
Andrew has a PhD in theoretical physics but his
first love is literature. He is Literary
Editor of Scotland on Sunday and has also
written novels which have been praised and
translated worldwide. One critic described Andrew as
"one of the most interesting and original European
authors of recent years". |
|

Amanda
Minns
Librarian |
|
The
school's former librarian, Amanda, is a Reading Champion on
the Read Together website. She says, "I hate to be
without a book. I take one with me wherever I go.
Reading has given me a lot of pleasure, it has made
me laugh and cry. It has made me sad, happy and helped
me to see the world differently." |

Roddy
Murray
Environment |
|
Roddy gained a BA in Rural Development at Lewes
Castle College and then an MSc at Aberdeen
University. The hard work paid off when he was
appointed Project Manager for the Kinlochleven Land
Development Trust, an organisation which aims to
regenerate Kinlochleven as an outdoor tourism and
small business centre. |
|

James
Baxter
Soldier |
|
James's achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win the First World War.
Sadly, he paid a terrible price as a news
report at the time tells: "Private Baxter, K.O.S.B.,
son of the late James Baxter, hairdresser in
Kirkintilloch, is presumed killed in action in
France on 1st July 1916. On this day a
comrade, also a Kirkintilloch man, saw him go over
the parapet carrying a supply of bombs, and never
saw him again. It is feared the worst has befallen
him. Before enlisting he was employed at the Nickel
Works. Private Baxter was aged 19." |
|

Scott
Murray
Sport |
|
Scot's talent as a goalkeeper was obvious from an
early age. Now, at just 17-years-old, he already
seems well on his way to a distinguished footballS
career. Scott was signed by Dundee Football Club in
August 2004 while still a Kirkintilloch High School
pupil. Since then he has enjoyed first team action,
playing with and against some of the SPL greats. He
has also travelled to Turkey to play with the
Scotland U17s in the UEFA qualifiers.

Craig
Enterprise
Education |
|
Craig
was selected for the 2005 'Encouraging Dynamic
Global Entrepreneurs' course. This is an exciting
international program which brings together 16
students from Dunbartonshire High schools,
Columbia University in New York and Glasgow
University, to work on real projects as a way of
developing skills such as leadership. This is an
ideal course for Craig as he has been accepted for a course
in Aero-Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde
University. It is his ambition to join the RAF as an
Engineering Officer. |
