Local Hero. In 1995 he won a BAFTA and an
Oscar for Best Short Film for his work on Franz

Fraser gained 'A's at school before going to Oxford
to study English & European Law. His love of
debating helped him become the first ever state
school-educated President of the Oxford Union.
Fraser joined a law firm after Oxford but plans to
move into politics eventually. |

Gerry is a successful playwright, director and
actor. He was a founder member of the theatre
company Communicado which has toured
Scotland, often playing to packed halls in small
towns. As Director of the company, Gerry worked closely with all
the actors and stage crew. |

Jim is one of Scotland's most influential engineers.
He studied civil engineering at Strathclyde
University before joining top international
consultancy Scott Wilson. Jim is now
Chairman of Scott Wilson (Scotland & Ireland) and
has been responsible for the design of many major
bridges and other projects in Asia, Africa and
Europe!

Stephen

Stephen's talent as a footballer was obvious at
school and it was therefore no great surprise when
he joined his boyhood heroes Celtic. During his time
at Celtic Park Stephen, who is a skilful left-sided defender,
played many games for the Celtic first team and was capped
for Scotland. He then moved on to the major
English club Leeds United. |

East Dunbartonshire people have enjoyed distinguished careers
in the law. John is a good example. He served as a
Sheriff in both Airdrie and Glasgow and went on to
become a member of the Parole Board for Scotland. In
addition, John gets involved in charity work. For
example he is a former Chairman of the Northern
Lighthouse Board. |

and recording for over 25 years. Paul is lead
singer, guitarist and songwriter. |

and Take The High Road, while she also played

Ian served as a parish priest in many parts of
Scotland including Edinburgh, Stirling, Fife and the
Borders before in 1999, he was appointed as the new
Bishop of Argyll & The Isles. |

Catholic Justice &
Peace Commission. He advises Scotland's Bishops on issues of social justice such as

The scheme, which rewards pupils for good behaviour
and positive attitudes, led to more exam
