A highly successful journalist who has been the Political Editor for national newspapers including the Daily Mirror. Peter has also acted as press officer to top politicians and often appears as an expert commentator on radio and television. He is currently the Scottish Government Editor for The Scotsman.

Gordon
Hunter

Law

Many St Augustine's pupils have done well in the Law. Gordon is a good example. Following Edinburgh University he served his apprenticeship and after a few years started his own firm. He is now a principal in the well-known Edinburgh law firm, Valente, McCombie & Hunter. (more)

Jimmy
O'Rourke.

Sport

A legend of Easter Road. Jimmy played alongside fellow Achiever, Pat Stanton, in the great Hibs side of the 1970s. A natural goal scorer, his powerful, bustling style brought him great success in the opposition penalty box. The highlight of his career was probably winning the League Cup against Celtic in 1972.

Marie
Keen

Education

Marie is one of St Augustine's many education achievers. After qualifying as a teacher she specialised in nursery education and before long was a highly successful Head Teacher.  She then
joined the Quality Development team at Edinburgh City Council and now advises nurseries throughout the city.

Miss
McWilliams

Education

Miss McWilliams, later to become Mrs Dungate, was a traditional and very effective teacher. Many former pupils remember her Maths classes which were expertly controlled with a few carefully chosen words. Many are also grateful for the excellent marks they attained in Higher, Standard and O-Grade exams.

Bernard
MacLaverty

Author

A top writer who has won many awards and prizes over the years, including a Saltire Award and a Booker Prize nomination. His moving intelligent novels encourage readers to think as well as feel. Bernard is a brilliant writer but many former pupils will simply remember him as Mr MacLaverty, their English teacher. (more)

Yvonne
McLennan

Business

With three young children of her own, Yvonne took the brave step of opening a nursery to look after another fifty! It was a great success and she has since opened a second nursery. Yvonne also sits on a number of important working groups in the nursery education sector.

Over her years in teaching, Marion's talent, hard work and concern for pupils led to inevitable promotion. She was previously Head Teacher at St Thomas of Acquin's and is now in charge at St David's High School, Dalkeith.
