Thomas, better known as 'Tosh', showed a lot of
promise as a young footballer at school and went on
to enjoy a very successful career in the
professional game. A talented left-sided wing-back,
he played for Dundee, Hearts and Kilmarnock as well
as his boyhood heroes, Celtic. Tosh also
played for Scotland and enjoyed spells with
Stoke County in England as well as Grasshoppers
Zurich in Switzerland. |

McAvoy

James
is becoming more and more successful thanks to a
wide variety of television and film roles.
Indeed, his role in the award-winning films Last
King of Scotland and Atonement made him famous throughout the
world. Like Tom Mannion (beow) he is graduate of RSAMD.
Apart from his acting skills, James is a
fencer, plays rugby and football, can
perform on guitar or piano, and is even a practised
fire-eater! |

Michael
McCarron

St Thomas Aquinas has produced many individuals who
are skilled public speakers and are not scared to
state their views.
Michael was elected Vice Chair of Glasgow's
Secondary Pupil Council in 2004. He was
therefore able to play an important part in the
60-strong Council's discussions on topics such as
youth crime, leisure facilities for teenagers and
the careers advice provided at schools throughout
the city. |

Rosanne

Rosanne was one of only 26 pupils in Scotland chosen
for the Scottish Space School in 2004.
The group of S5 students completed a week's course
at the NASA Space Centre in Houston, Texas.
The unique programme aimed to spark a long-term
interest in science. It included work with
NASA cadets, astronauts and scientists, and visits
to the laboratories and space shuttle. |

Louise
realised a childhood dream when she gained a place
on a nursing course. She is now in the third year of her
training and has passed all her assessments so far.
Louise is looking forward to working in Accident &
Emergency (A&E) as she will discover whether TV's
Casualty is accurate! She eventually hopes
to become a hospital ward sister.

Frank
was one of Britain's top middle-distance runners
in the 1970s. He ran well at the
Olympic Games and The Commonwealth Games, and is a former
British record-holder for the mile and 1500 metres. Frank has continued in a variety of positions in the
world of athletics and is keen to see many young people
participate in the sport. |

A fine
actor on stage and screen who trained at the Royal
Scottish Academy for Music and Drama after leaving
school. Tom has appeared in a wide variety of roles
ranging from Shakespeare to Star Wars but he
consistently receives rave reviews from the critics. |

Angus is a well-known broadcaster who first made a
name for himself through appearances on STV's
Scotland Today and Radio Clyde. He adopts a
friendly style but can still get to the heart of
issues he is reporting on. Angus also trains
people on how to perform successfully in front of an
audience. |

Peter is a highly skilled tradesman who has
established a successful business on the other side
of the world. His company builds and restores
fireplaces in historic buildings in Canada.
Peter is proud of his Scottish connection and finds
it can even be an advantage in business |

John
was one of many whose great achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win the First World War.
Sadly, he paid the ultimate price as a report in a
local newspaper in 1916 tells: "Corporal J. Smith has been
killed in action near Somme in France. He was
educated in the local school and before being called up was
a farm labourer. He was
19 years of age."

Music
is important to most people but only a lucky few
manage to make a living from it. Even if it is not
possible to do this for an entire career, many
musicians get great enjoyment from performing on a
part-time basis. David is a good example. He spent
many years as a full-time musician, even appearing
on TV. In recent years he has taken a 'normal
job' but his band still enjoys playing at functions.

former pupils have followed a career in the law.
Sandra is a good example. She studied law at
university before joining a law firm to complete her
training. She has since gained experience of many
aspects of the Scottish legal system. Sandra
now puts this knowledge to good use by helping her
clients deal with a wide variety of problems.

decided on a career in the police when she was in
her final year at school. She has never regretted it. Her work is varied and
she enjoys helping the public in many ways. Sarah
also likes being part of a hard-working team who
help each other. She believes it is important to uphold the law and finds it is very
interesting to deal with those people who decide to break it.

Brian
always wanted to run his own business and has now
achieved his aim. As the owner of a local
building firm he tends to be very busy because a lot
of people know and trust him. Of course, Brian
knows he must do a good job or his reputation will
quickly begin to suffer. Brian is very proud
of the fact that his company now creates jobs in the
community where he grew up.

The
school is proud of many former pupils who have gone
on to work in the National Health Service (NHS).
Janet studied Medicine at university and at one
stage was a doctor in the Accident & Emergency Unit
of a major hospital dealing with victims of major
road traffic accidents as well as patients with
sprained ankles! She is now a General Practitioner (GP)
based at a local health centre.

In the
workplace, people must be prepared to re-train and
keep their skills up-to-date. Susan is a good
example. She first served an apprenticeship as an
engineer and has since trained in computer studies.
She enjoys using
modern technology in her work. In fact, Susan
now trains other engineers in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD)
at work.

MPs and MSPs may be better known to the general
public, but local councillors such as Mary, take
many decisions that have a real impact on the lives
of local people. Each councillor is elected to represent an area called an
'electoral ward'. Mary is a hard-working councillor
who tries her best to help people with a very wide
range of problems.

Robert
spent a gap year working as a volunteer in a
developing country before completing a university
degree in Politics & Economics. He then decided to train as a social worker.
Robert now has a heavy case load at work and at
times, his job can prove demanding. However, he
has no regrets because he finds it very satisfying
to help people in great need.

Politicians make Government decisions but it is
civil servants who put them into practice.
Without civil servants, important services such as
hospitals and schools would grind to a halt. Many
former pupils have gone on to enjoy successful
careers in the Civil Service. Alan is a good
example. He has held many top posts including
a spell working closely with a government minister.

Many
pupils choose to help people less well
off than themselves. For example, Emma spends a lot
of time working with a volunteer group which helps
the families of local children with special needs.
Emma is happy to give up her spare time in this way
because she finds it very satisfying and has also
made many good friends. Now she is considering
a career in education.

therefore no surprise that many former pupils have
achieved a lot in the world of education. Jim is a
good example. After going to university and then
studying to become a teacher, he has enjoyed a long
and successful career in the classroom. Jim
has helped many young people not only pass exams,
but also enjoy school!
