Stephen
Caira


Music

Stephen is a talented opera singer who has performed all over Europe. He has appeared in many of the great operas such as Madame Butterfly, Tosca and La Traviata. Stephen has made many recordings and has performed on both television and radio. In addition, he has  completed a degree in Geology!

Doherty


Education

Not so long ago, Mrs Doherty was a first year pupil at St Columba's. Now she sits behind the Head Teacher's desk.  In between times, she has graduated from Glasgow University and taught at a number of Inverclyde schools. Mrs Doherty is very proud that the school has produced so many achievers in different fields.

Colella


Education

Many former pupils will remember Mr Colella who was a Principal Teacher at St Columba's in the late 1980s. He then worked in a number of other schools before in 2003, he took on one of the toughest jobs in education by becoming Chief Executive of the Scottish Qualifications Authority.


Martin
Compston


Acting

Martin is a successful actor. While at school, he auditioned for a major film set in Inverclyde ... and got the starring role! He also passed enough exams to go to university, and could even have played professional football! Martin does a lot for charity and tells pupils at St Columba's to work hard so they also have choices when they leave school.


Alison
Watt


Painter

Alison is an internationally renowned artist. She has exhibited her work in Scotland and abroad to high acclaim. One of her most famous commissions was her portrait of the late Queen Mother. which included Alison's 'trademark' item, an upside down teacup which is sits next to the Queen Mother's arm in the portrait.


Bernard
McLeary


Education

Bernard was the first Director of Education when the new local authority area of Inverclyde was set up. After an outstanding HMI report on the quality of Education Services in Inverclyde, Bernard was appointed as Chief Executive of Learning and Teaching Scotland. This is one of the most important education posts in the country.

A talented and experienced diplomat who became the UK's Ambassador to El Salvador.

Sport

A British Amateur Golf Champion and captain of a victories GB & Ireland Walker Cup Team. (more)
