Ian is
one of Britain's top car designers. He knew
what he wanted to do from an early age and while
still only 13, submitted a car design to the famous
Jaguar car company in the hope of landing a job!
He went on to study in Coventry, a city long
associated with car manufacturing, Aberdeen Art
College and the Glasgow School of Art where he
studied Industrial Design. Ian then graduated with a
Masters degree in Vehicle Design from the Royal
College of Art in London. Thereafter, his career took
off and eventually Ian not only got his job at
Jaguar but went on to design some of their top
models and become their Chief Designer! (more) |

Douglas
Chalmers

Families
who send their children to Morrison's believe
learning is important and it is therefore no
surprise that many former pupils have achieved a lot
in the world of education. Douglas
is a good example. After achieving a First Class
degree in mathematics at Glasgow University, and
then studying to become a teacher, he has enjoyed a
long and successful career in the classroom.

Linda
is an expert in mental health and has regularly
advised the government on the best policies to adopt
for individuals suffering from mental illness.
She led the widely admired 'See Me' Anti Stigma
Campaign which used television and other methods
to challenge the public's view of mental
illness. Linda has held important posts such
as Director of the Scottish Down's Syndrome Association
and has also worked with Age Concern and the
British Medical Association. She was also
elected as a local councillor in Edinburgh. |
The
school is proud of many former pupils who work in
the health service. Louise studied
medicine at university and is now a doctor in a major hospital.
This was her childhood dream. Louise will
shortly take up a post as a consultant in the
Accident & Emergency (A&E) Dept. where she will discover
whether or not TV's Casualty is accurate.
She is now used to working very hard under a lot of
pressure and with a great deal of responsibility ..
but she has never lost the tremendous satisfaction
she receives from making people better. |
Denis
began his acting career with a small part in a West
End play in London and has since showed his talent
in a very wide range of stage, TV and film roles.
He gained world-wide fame in the 1970s with a part in the
first
Star Wars film but for many people in the UK, his
most appealing role was in the wonderful film,
Local Hero set in a small Scottish village.
Denis has also appeared in many TV shows, including
a regular part in Holby City. |
Susan
always wanted to run her own business and has now
achieved her aim. As the current owner and manager of a local building
firm founded by her father, she tends to be very busy because a lot of
people know and trust the firm. Of course, Susan knows
she must do a good job or the firm's reputation will
quickly begin to suffer. Susan is very proud
of the fact that her company now creates jobs in the community
where she grew up. |
Ewan
is one of the world's most successful film actors.
His first taste of fame followed the hard-hitting
Scottish film Trainspotting about the
terrible problems caused by drug addiction.
Many starring roles followed including a leading
part in Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith. Despite
his success, Ewan has kept his feet on the ground.
He retains his excellent sense of humour and has
helped raise millions of pounds for charities such
as Comic Relief. |
Barbara is a highly talented international artist
who on leaving Morrison's, studied at Edinburgh
College of Art. She then won scholarships to study in
France and Spain and soon built up a reputation
which saw her work prized by collectors. Over
the years Barbara has been elected to a number of
high profile posts in the world of art and has
continued to work in many countries including South
Africa, Norway, Australia and Mexico. She also
spent time working in the Arizona desert in the USA!
Barbara's paintings now hang in many public galleries as
well as private collections. (more) |
Carol is a senior software engineer in the
telecommunications industry. After leaving
school she studied at University of Abertay and then
Heriot Watt University before going on to work with
some of the best known IT companies in the world
including both Nokia and Hewlett-Packard. |
Gavin
was a farmer's son who, after leaving Morrison's,
went to Edinburgh and then Cambridge Universities.
He became a research scientist after graduating,
focusing his work on agricultural matters.
Gavin was also interested in politics and joined the
Labour Party when he was 18. He became Chairman of
Perth Labour Party and has since built an impressive
political career, at one point serving as a Cabinet
Minister in the UK government. Gavin
has represented the people of Edinburgh East in the
House of Commons since 1970 and is now Scotland's
longest-serving MP. |
The
Academy has produced many talented sports stars
over the years. Simon is a good example.
While still a pupil at the school, he was selected for Scottish Schools before going on to
play for Scotland's u18, u19 and u21 teams. He has
since enjoyed a successful career in
professional rugby in Scotland, England and France.
Simon has not only played more than 60 times for
Scotland but has also been selected for the British
Lions! |
Robert
was one of many whose great achievement was to help
Britain and its allies win the First World War.
Sadly, he paid the ultimate price. After
leaving Morrison's, Robert studied at Cambridge
University where he was also a champion gymnast and
captain of the tennis team. He went on to
become a partner in an Edinburgh company before joining
the army in 1912. By the time World War I broke out
in 1914 he had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. At
one point Robert was made an escort to a
General but he requested a return to his regiment so
he could share the risks with his men.
In 1915 he to ok part in the infamous battle at
Gallipoli in Turkey. A telegram received by his
family in May announced that during the fighting
"Lieutenant Robert Maule was struck by shrapnel and
died from his injuries". He had been
exposed on the battlefield while putting his
men under cover. (more)
