Plymouth Gin lead the way in
Devon
Plymouth Gin are taking a leading role in the
Schools Alcohol Awareness Project
a new education initiative which encourages young people
throughout the country to adopt responsible attitudes towards
alcohol. The scheme also helps school pupils understand the
growing importance of the hospitality industry.
Plymouth Gin are pleased to sign up as a Platinum Member in such an important programme and, as a business active
in the licensed retail sector, are delighted that the classroom
materials distributed free to schools encourage young people to
consider the serious dangers that result from the misuse of
alcohol.
The company is also pleased that the scheme introduces pupils to
many aspects of the hospitality industry, particularly as
millions of young people go on to part-time or full-time
employment in the sector. It is therefore vital that they
understand ways in which the country now depends upon tourism,
catering and other areas of the industry.
The Schools Alcohol Awareness Project
is delivered in partnership with teachers but is not a
government initiative. Its success is due mainly to the support
of BII members across the UK. BII is the
professional body for the licensed retail sector. With
over 15,000 members, it promotes high standards, good employment
practice and social responsibility within the hospitality
industry.
Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB said, "We are very
grateful to Plymouth Gin for their support which allows
us to help teachers in a practical way while also raising young
people’s awareness of vital issues.”
Patrick Gaffney, Director of the Schools Project, added his own
thanks saying, “We can only make a difference in schools if we
gain the support of the wider community. I am delighted that
Plymouth Gin have decided to lead the way in this important
initiative by nominating five local secondary schools for the
scheme.”
