"Interesting and searching questions on the law"...

“I really enjoyed the visit to my former primary school!  I was so impressed with the Primary 7 children who were well mannered, enthusiastic and asked some very interesting and searching questions on the law.  The staff are obviously doing a great job.  From the questions I recognised some budding lawyers in the group!  It was fantastic to meet some of my old teachers after all those years.  I feel we do so little to celebrate those who have made a difference to our lives and it was lovely to be able to acknowledge to the children that my teachers made that difference for me."

"Worked well on so many different levels"...

“I must congratulate you on such an innovative and constructive concept. I thought that it worked well on so many different levels, in relation to the elements of self-esteem, pride in the school, the community and society in general as well as providing information on the law and the profession. If there is anything else I can do to support you in this venture, I would be happy to do so."

David Preston, Solicitor & former President of the Law Society of Scotland
(Hillhead High School, Glasgow)

"I thoroughly enjoyed the visit"...

“I felt this was a rare opportunity for people like myself to talk
directly to pupils who might ultimately go on to do law as well as youngsters who have no practical understanding of the various areas law can
cover. For many the only thought is that the law covers criminal work or
conveyancing.  I think it also helped show that we can all do what we aspire to if we set our minds to it.  I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and I really appreciated the way everything was handled. It made
it very, very easy for me.."

(Eyemouth High School)

"I wholeheartedly support this project"...

“Just a short note to say that I really enjoyed yesterday ...  I wholeheartedly support this project. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope we managed to inspire some of the children present.  It gave the children lots to talk about - they were certainly very animated and not at all short of questions for me!.”

"An uplifting and hugely encouraging lesson"  ...

“"It was impressive the way the young people responded to Patrick's questioning of their awareness of what constitutes achievement. With the added bonus of David Preston, our very own former pupil, facing valiantly a barrage of questions on his law career, it all made for an uplifting and hugely encouraging lesson in real life for our students. I hope the motivation from that will help each of them go on and be a credit to themselves and the school in the future. Who knows if one of them will return to do likewise to the next generation of Hillhead pupils."

Ken Cunningham, Headteacher, Hillhead High School

"You've made my week!" ...

“I want to thank you on behalf of all of our children and staff for the project box which arrived this morning. Please rest assured that these materials will not gather dust - they are beautifully and thoughtfully designed and will be used in the very near future. What a lovely idea! It really is good to know that we have friends like yourselves in the local and wider community who are ready to support us. Ledingham Chalmers and The Schools Law Project will be mentioned in our next newsletter and we would be absolutely delighted if you would consider forging even stronger links with our school. Many, many thanks - you've made my week!"

Kenneth Neal, Head Teacher, Tollcross Primary School

"Particularly impressed" ...

“In order to make something like this work it's important to keep it simple and achievable. Our former pupil's visit was a great success at all levels, but I was particularly impressed because it worked with a young group who are sometimes difficult to interest and therefore miss out on the extras in the curriculum.  The scheme is also remarkably hassle-free.  I was required to do absolutely no preparation other than ask the pupils to give their attention."

Gordon Lawrie, Principal Teacher, Portobello High School

"A great help"  ...

“Very definitely a great help. A very, very useful addition to our Citizenship course ... really helpful for the teachers and a good trigger for getting youngsters to think about many areas. The materials and prizes will be used with three year groups - that's 370 pupils in total - I know precisely because I'm putting together the course for them all! The engraved Achievement Medal will be used for the top pupil across the whole Citizenship course for the year. A really good resource. Excellent!"

Geoff Potter, Head of Department, Claydon High School

"Absolutely delighted!" ...

“Absolutely delighted to be included in this scheme. Very impressed by the project materials. I showed them to the staff in my department who all thought they were excellent. The content fits neatly into the 'Community Understanding' element of our new Citizenship course. Very teacher-friendly and easy to use. Competition prizes and Achievement Medals will be most useful. Thank you very much indeed.”
