Cartridges
lead
the way
in Devon
Cartridges recently became the first law firm in Devon to
join a nationwide
initiative which helps school pupils understand the legal system
and the wide variety of work that lawyers do. The teacher-led Schools Law Project also
makes young people aware that laws bring
responsibilities as well as rights.
Cartridges became supporters of the Schools Law Project
as soon as it was established in England in April 2010 and were
happy to nominate St Margaret's School and St Sidwells Primary
School, both in Exeter, for the
scheme.
Penny Scott, the Managing Partner at Cartridges and also
a member of the Law Society Children Panel, confirmed
the firm is delighted to support the Schools Law Project because it helps young
people understand the concepts and terms which underpin the
legal system.
This is achieved by distributing teacher-friendly materials to
schools. These are issued weekly and provide busy school
staff with news-based exercises which introduce
classes to the vital role of law in our society along with
other aspects of citizenship. (samples)
The Schools Law Project
has proved very popular with both teachers and lawyers, and has
consequently gained the support of many law
firms throughout the UK.
Patrick Gaffney, Director of The Schools Law Project,
thanked Penny Scott and her colleagues saying, “We can only make a difference in schools if
we gain the support of the wider community. I am extremely
grateful to Cartridges for backing our
project."
“Indeed, I am pleased to say the support from law firms
throughout the country has been remarkable. They are clearly
keen to increase the understanding of young people. Around 150,000
pupils have now been catered for and the legal profession deserves
great credit for this.”
