Brodies' Jennifer Heaney gives
good advice to Bannerman High students
Bannerman High in Glasgow recently welcomed back one of many
successful former pupils when the young corporate lawyer,
Jennifer Heaney, visited the school.
Jennifer returned to answer a wide variety of questions about
her time at the school, as well as her life as a student and the
legal work she is now involved in. Pupils also asked questions
about young people and the law.
Yvonne Maclean, Enterprise & Employability Officer at the
school, welcomed Jennifer who studied Law at Strathclyde
University and now works with the major Scottish law firm
Brodies.
Yvonne commented, “We are very grateful to Jennifer for coming
back. She is a great example to the pupils, particularly
our girls, of how talented and hard-working individuals can go
on to achieve success.”
Jennifer spent time with classes in the Modern Studies Dept.
where she received a warm welcome from teacher Sandra Roberts.
Sandra said, “The pupils firstly enjoyed guessing what
Jennifer’s job is, and then found it very interesting to ask
questions about her time as a law student and also how the law
affects young people today.”
Jennifer’s visit to Bannerman High was organised as part of the
Scottish Schools Law Project. One element of the
project takes high achievers from the legal community back to
their former school, so illustrating to present-day pupils that
they too can make the most of their talents. The visits are also
helpful to youngsters who may be considering law at university.
The Schools Law Project is run in consultation with the
Law Society of Scotland. Liz Campbell, Director of Education
at the Society said, “We are delighted that successful
solicitors such as Jennifer are happy to give up their time to
encourage pupils at their former school. It also helps young
people learn more about the Scottish legal system and how it
affects them.”
